It is always a pleasure working with someone who knows what he’s doing, and Zach brings that confidence to every frame. His amazing sense of scene direction creates a continuous flow of action that makes these characters feel much bigger, and much more alive, than their size suggests.
I am always a little apprehensive that characters with limited articulation will not move as well as I imagine, or be as cool to watch once the cameras roll. Stop motion always delivers. Zach finds the personality in every tilt, turn, impact, and reaction.

Stop motion requires an excruciating amount of patience, and the microwave explosion is the perfect example. Across three different setups, Zach manually stretched and pulled apart cotton balls frame by frame to create the illusion of rolling smoke.
Aside from the microwave scene, my favorite moment is the interaction between Scotchy and Spore: watching Scotchy wrap him up like some tape-dispensing Spider-Man. It is funny, inventive, and exactly the kind of character-driven action I hope these toys inspire.
